Bricker & Beam is a furniture shop based in Columbia, South Carolina that specializes in marrying modern, clean-lined design with heirloom-quality craftsmanship.

Founded by owner and lead designer, Josh Cox, Bricker & Beam is devoted to crafting signature furniture pieces for clients across the US and Canada. Whether for residential or commercial spaces, Josh and his team love working with clients to design signature statement pieces that will elevate their space.

Each piece is designed and made to order in house, offering the ability to work closely with every client toward a furniture solution that fits their needs. With a passion for clean-lined design and unique architecture, Bricker & Beam works with a variety of natural materials and finishes to ensure each piece complements the aesthetic of its new home.

Born On Bricker Hill

Bricker & Beam was named in honor of my grandfather who introduced me to woodworking when I was a boy. I remember spending summers on his farm in Northeast Ohio, felling trees, driving tractors, and chopping firewood for the pot-belly stove - everything a little boy dreams about.

We’d make anything from picture frames with discarded barnwood to hand-hewn wooden bridges which allowed the tractors to cross the stream - there was always an adventure to be had.

When I was eight my grandfather hired a team of Amish sawyers to remove a few hardwood trees from his property. They came with their hats and beards, their axes and their horses to harvest the Oak and Cherry trees from a section of his property. As we watched them work, my grandfather explained that these trees would be cut down and milled into lumber for furniture. I remember that being the first time I realized that a tree could be turned into a table, and I was hooked.

In the years since then I’ve continually endeavored to master the art of woodworking, explore relationships between different materials, and develop methods to shape and combine them. Although we now offer much more than the rustic picture frames of my childhood, I’ll never cease to be inspired by those summers spent at my grandfather’s farm on “Bricker Hill.”

Bricker & Beam was founded on a passion for crafting the highest quality furniture possible. Specializing in blending contemporary, clean-lined designs with warm wood tones, our aim is to preserve and showcase the inherent beauty of natural materials. Wherever possible, work with sustainably and locally sourced materials, striving to support local businesses and other craftsmen along the way.

While our main focus lies with dining tables, coffee tables, desks, and credenzas, we also offer custom pieces for commercial and residential spaces.
